RO/RO Kaptan Necdet Or, sailing southbound in Bosphorus, 1993. Built in 1977 by Elsflether Werft A.G. in W. Germany. Grt/Net/Dwt : 2.212 / 763 / 2.742 L/B/D : 109,9/16,8/4,9 m. Engine: 2 diesel engines, made by Masch. Augburg-Nuerenberg, 3.520 hp. each. Speed : 17 knots, twin screws. Capacity : 50 trailer trucks, or 130 pieces of 20 ft. containers else 65 pieces of 40 footers. History : Initially she was named after Capt. Necdet Or ( 1907-1975) who had worked long years on Turkish Marine Lines ships. He had been known for his hard and dedicated work in marine circles. He had been the master of s/s Tarsus in 1950s. 2002 - Akport 1 2004 - Ufuk-1 Seawaves newsletter of Aug. 25, 2005 reads : " Turkish ship, Ufuk 1, is on fire in the Black Sea and its passengers and crew have abandoned ship, an Emergency Situations Ministry official stated. An SOS signal from the ship was received at 1715 Moscow time. "It was reported that a fire broke out on the ship. The ship is 80 kilometers from Sochi, in Georgia's jurisdiction," the source said. The ship is travelling towards Turkey. The passengers and crew were taken on board a North Korean vessel, the TRAPESUS-2, and two coast guard vessels and a helicopter were also dispatched to provide assistance. She was also decomissioned after the fire broke out in her engine room on Dec.2, 1988. She was in the Agean Sea when the incident had happened.
